I’ve been speaking with a lot of people recently who have been laid off.

It’s a tough time for many people, especially in tech.

LinkedIn can be an amazing tool to help you land a job. The problem is most people don’t use it correctly.

They just use it to apply to be a bunch of different positions.

Here’s what I recommend instead.

Today’s Topic - How to use LinkedIn to get a job

I had a good conversation the other day with someone looking for a job.

She asked me for my best advice on how to use LinkedIn for this.

Here’s what I recommended:

1. Connect with everyone from the company on LinkedIn or in the department you’re interested in

2. Comment/engage thoughtfully on what they share for 4+ weeks

3. Send a message related to what they are posting about

4. Get a conversation with whoever you can

5. Offer to do free work for them

You have to be willing to do what others won’t.

Very few people will do this because it’s hard.

Getting a job follows a similar process to getting new business from LinkedIn.
