With 5 easy steps

Welcome to the Optimistic Office

Hey there it's Harris!

I asked my readers for feedback and you all delivered.

We are switching up the format and frequency of this newsletter.

Instead of 1 thing we love, 1 thing we find innovative, and 1 thing we find interesting every other week, we will be sharing 1 out-of-the-box tactic you can implement to help you recruit, onboard, and retain your employees every week.

The goal of this new format is to give you an easy-to-implement, nuanced idea to help you with the people side of your business.

WHERE WE SEE INNOVATION - Onboarding

Create a Strong Preboarding Process

The preboarding phase of someone's employment is described as the time between when an employee accepts your offer and their first day.

This is so often a missed opportunity where most organizations celebrate the fact that they finally received the "yes" and forget to reach out for those 2 weeks or 1 month.

By doing nothing, you increase the possibility that this person decides to take another offer in that timeframe.

You could potentially spend all this time sourcing, recruiting, and interviewing the talent just to lose them before day 1.

These 5 ideas will ensure your new hire shows up excited and ready to be productive on Day 1:

  1. Have the manager call them on the day they accept the offer - Tell them to put 5 minutes on their calendar to ensure it happens, and hold them accountable to doing so.

  2. Have a senior leader send a quick face to camera video - This sets the tone for the importance of the new role. Have them say "Hi [new hire], I have heard such fantastic things about you and we can't wait for you to get started."

  3. Get team members involved - Send them scripted emails that they can send so it's as easy as possible.

  4. Send them swag - Use my friends at SwagUp https://www.swagup.com/?utm_source=activateonboarding&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=partnershiplaunch that make the process super easy for you.

  5. Have them fill out a motivation survey - Ask them what brought you here, what will keep you here, and what is the best praise you've ever received? Get the retention blueprint for them before they even begin.
