And why I think it worked
Welcome to The Revenue Generator
Hey there, it’s Harris!
Welcome to the Revenue Generator where I (usually) share 1 tactic each week that you can implement to help you generate more revenue.
I’ve spent my full career in sales/business development, and I’ve been asked a lot recently why I got into LinkedIn/social selling.
I was leading business development for a leadership and team development company in early 2020 and the majority of our business was going to client sites and delivering training on things like Emotional Intelligence, MBTI, Change, Resilience, etc.
And within 2 months of me joining the organization, this part of our business was gone.
I had to pivot and figure out how I was going to sell.
Luckily, I came across a social selling course and while the course was fine, the big takeaway was that there is an awesome way to sell that doesn’t include cold emailing and cold calling.
It involved developing yourself as a thought leader, connecting with the right people, and helping them to get to know (and therefore trust) you.
With all that being said, I’ve been creating content for myself for 5 years now and for clients for almost 2 years.
When I see a post pop off, I like to share the post and then why.
Let’s dive in.
Today’s Topic - My recent post that got 50,000 views
So here was the post
“I have this theory that athletes who feel like they didn't hit their peak become great entrepreneurs.
They still have that burning desire to become great which pushes them from a business standpoint.
So many successful entrepreneurs I talk with feel like their athletic career was left unfinished.
This is definitely true for me.
And over the last few months, I've probably had 30+ conversations with entrepreneurs where this is also the case.
Curious to hear if anybody has written about this and/or if people agree/disagree!”
Here’s why I think it got attention:
It’s obvious AI didn’t write this and it’s my specific thought
It’s a bit different than what you tend to see on LinkedIn
I used a picture that probably grabbed some people’s attention
There’s a lot of former athletes out there who clearly didn’t hit their peak
I asked for people’s thoughts on the post
And in addition to the 50,000 views, I received 15+ direct messages, and 10+ text messages from people telling me how much it resonated.
The reason I share this is because this is the type of content getting a ton of engagement on LinkedIn right now.
Personal
Something only you can write
A specific take that other people haven’t seen
