The 3 Main Roles of the CEO
Don't overcomplicate it
Welcome to The Revenue Generator
Hey there, it’s Harris!
Welcome to the Revenue Generator where I share 1 tactic each week that you can implement to help you generate more revenue.
This week is a bit different.
Most of my clients are CEOs/Founders and/or Chief Revenue Officers.
They are in leadership positions to help move the company forward.
I have a lot of conversations with them about what their day-to-day looks like and what they think it should look like.
I combined context from those conversations and some things that I’ve recently read into how I think about the three main roles of the CEO/Leader.
Let’s dive in.
Today’s Topic - The 3 Main Roles of the CEO
In my opinion, the CEO/Leader has 3 main roles:
1. Set the vision
The CEO's primary role is to provide a clear and compelling vision for the company. This involves identifying long-term goals and the strategies to achieve them. A strong vision serves as the north star for all organizational activities, ensuring every effort is aligned with the company’s overarching objectives.
The CEO must also be adept at communicating this vision internally to inspire employees and externally to attract investment and build customer trust.
2. Hire and retain the best talent
Attracting skilled professionals is just the start; a CEO must also foster an environment that retains these individuals. This involves creating a workplace culture that values innovation, diversity, and mutual respect.
Competitive compensation, continuous professional development, and opportunities for career advancement are crucial. The CEO needs to be involved in creating policies that help with employee satisfaction and retention.
3. Hold that talent accountable
A CEO must ensure that the team is not just talented but also effective. This requires establishing clear performance metrics that are aligned with the company’s strategic goals. Regular reviews and feedback sessions help maintain focus and drive.
The CEO should foster a culture of accountability where high performance is recognized and underperformance is constructively addressed. This role also involves making tough decisions about personnel when necessary to maintain organizational health.
This is something I’m thinking a lot about as we grow https://linked-revenue.com/.
