10 Thoughts on Selling

Hey there, it’s Harris!
Welcome to the Revenue Generator where I (usually) share 1 tactic each week that you can implement to help you generate more revenue.
I’ve spent my whole career in some version of sales or account management.
I’ve made too many mistakes to count, and along the way I’ve learned a couple things.
I wanted to share those today with the hope that they help someone else avoid the mistakes I’ve made.
Let’s dive in.

Today’s Topic - 10 Ideas for Selling
A few things about selling that have helped me and that I hope you take and use for yourself.
(Caveat, I don't have it all figured out... far from it. But these have helped me and I want you to take them and use them.)
1. Most of your next clients are already in your network, not outside it.
2. You need to be more proactive in asking for referrals
3. If you're willing to play the long game from a relationship perspective, good things will eventually happen. The issue is that most aren't patient enough and go to quickly for the immediate sale.
4. Have a unique point of view that people want to learn about and you will attract the right buyers.
5. Do whatever you can to meet valuable prospects AND partners in person.
6. Consistency beats creativity; showing up every week matters more than posting something “brilliant” once a month.
7. Don't ever, ever, ever jump right into your demo. Get to know the person and what they care about before talking about what you do.
8. Move on from prospects early in the process when you know they aren't a good fit.. (This is one I need to work on).
9. The goal in sales is to be top of mind for the most amount of people so when they do have a reason to buy (or someone they talk to has a reason to buy), you're the first person they think of.
10. Do more things in your follow-up that relate to them personally than professionally; people are more likely to remember this.
